If you are looking for something interesting to wear, don't limit yourself to goggles either. There are lots of antique spectacles and sunglasses and other types of optics that are suitable for period costumes and outfits. Are you going to a convention dressed as a Victorian librarian? Why not try a pair of bifocal reading glasses to add to the authenticity of your outfit? It could be just the right touch!
As for goggles, did you know that they have been around at least since the 1820s? They were often used by doctors for medical research. It was important to make sure that the eyes were protected from splashes, especially if you couldn't be sure how chemicals would react to each other. And of course, the earliest alpine skiers wore their goggles to protect them from the elements. So explorers and adventurers were pretty much the customers for the antique goggles that we like to buy today.

Even though these antique goggles have been around for one hundred or more years, many remain in very good shape, even today. The main part that may be slightly damaged is usually the tie or the piece that extends behind the neck. This can sometimes be frayed or slightly damaged, but is often replaceable. If you're lucky, you can sometimes find the antique goggle and case set. Normally the cases haven't had quite the same amount of handling or wear and tear as the goggles themselves and they are usually still in fairly good condition.
Usually the term antique refers to items that are over 100 years old, as opposed to vintage or collectible items which were made much more recently than antique items. Just keep in mind that some Ebay sellers may use the term inaccurately, so the listings for antique goggles generally include listings for specs manufactured in both the 19th and 20th centuries.
