German Military Goggles
German Military Goggles from World War I and II are highly desirable collectibles, particularly the goggles worn by the German Luftwaffe. During World War II, many of these goggles were actually made in occupied France, but since they were primarily worn by German soldiers and pilots, that is how they are generally marked in auctions.

Army surplus suppliers are one of the best places to find genuine German military goggles, and they are frequently offered up for auction on Ebay. Current day German military goggles are very different than the highly collectible World War One and World War Two German goggles, and all types of goggles are in demand these days. Many people into paintball fighting, or role-playing games are actively seeking out these style of goggles, as well as people who are interested in buying collectibles.
By shopping around you can find quite a few different types of German Military goggles. German military tank goggles, issued in the early 1950's are quite popular. These are round goggles, with rubber padding and an elastic headband. World War Two air crew goggles are also popular buys. These goggles were actually manufactured in either occupied Belgium or France for the German military, and were issued to flying crew and also vehicle drivers. They have slightly tinted lenses, a rubber piece surrounds the lens and they come with an adjustable head strap.
German Luftwaffe military goggles are in very popular with collectors and are usually snapped up quickly once they go up for sale. Other military goggles you can find on line include military motorcycle goggles, and German military dust goggles. The dust goggles were originally intended to be small lightweight disposable goggles. They feature tilted lenses, and have protective side panels with air vent holes. These were probably issued somewhere around 1940 or 1950, and they are one of the easier goggles to find.
In general, it is much more difficult to find World War One German goggles, especially ones that are still in good condition. It seems that at the beginning of World War One German pilots were not issued with aviation goggles so pilots had to either come up with some other commercially made goggles, or take goggles from foreign enemies that were captured. It took a while for the German government to catch up and begin making and issuing German military goggles, which perhaps accounts for some of the scarcity of these particular items.
By the time World War Two started, however, Germany had perfected the production of military goggles and in 1940 the Nitsche & Gunther splinter-proof goggles were regularly assigned to the German armed forces.
If you are interested in purchasing German military goggles, you should find a fairly good collection, of especially World War Two goggles, available for auction on Ebay. These are often sold complete with the original case they were issued in, and make a good buy for anyone interested in army memorabilia or collectibles.
