Many welding goggles are now made in a wraparound style, though the darker lenses make them unsuitable for actually wearing over the eyes (unless you are welding).

Vintage welding goggles, however, did not wraparound like modern day goggles do. Instead they consisted of two round or softly triangular shaped lenses that were set to wear over the eyes, in a similar style to other early goggles. These glasses were effective to use when welding, as the lenses were made from double-glass, although they didn't offer the standard of protection today's welding goggles do. If you are interested in them as collectibles, or to use as a fashion statement they are a great buy!

Today welding goggles are also known as flash goggles.
